"Why do we walk?"
My name is Monica Eastep and I am a parent at Imagine School at Broward. March is MS Awareness month and I have invited the school to join me in spreading awareness and making a difference through raising funds and walking for this great cause. Since I was diagnosed in 2004, I have been raising funds for the South Florida MS Chapter and walking for this cause. I hope all of you will join me and other Imagine families this year because EVERY HOUR in the United States, someone is newly diagnosed with MS- an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system. Walk MS has become a rallying point of the MS movement creating a community of shared commitment determined to find a cure and end MS. All Imagine friends and families are invited to join Eastep's Team Imagine, as we walk to imagine a cure for MS (Multiple Sclerosis) and do our part to make a difference! Last year, together we raised more than $7,800! We know we can make this year’s Walk even bigger than last year’s!
Volunteers: Our 7th grade Civics students, NJHS members and Student Council have all been invited to volunteer to work at the Walk and are encouraged to raise donations--all of which will help to satisfy their service hour requirements for the quarter. Safety Patrol and Elementary Student Council students are also invited to volunteer. All are invited to help in finding Business and Family Sponsors, whose generous contributions will be used to cover the cost of running the event itself. Any sponsorship money raised over expenses will go towards our Team Goal of $10,000. Both businesses and families are invited to sponsor our event with monetary donations, volunteer time and/or event supplies (i.e. water, oranges, bananas).
T-Shirts: All those who register by 02/28/2017 to walk in the event or volunteer at the event (or both!), will receive a *FREE Eastep's Team Imagine WALK MS t-shirt! What a statement we will make as we rally together and walk for our cause!
Where & When? The Walk will be held at school (starting out in the back of the school) on Saturday, April 1st. Volunteers should arrive by 7:30 a.m. Registration begins at 8 a.m. We'll be warming up with a pre-walk stretch at 8:30 a.m. lead by our very own Ms. Rosen! The Walk will begin at 9 a.m. Music will be provided by one of our Imagine Dads- DJ Andre! The Walk is a 5K, which means we'll be walking approximately 3.2 miles—the same route as last year for those of you who joined us in March 2016! What a great way to start your Saturday! Imagine School at Broward is located at 9001 Westview Drive, Coral Springs 33067.
Why? Through their participation, our kids will learn about MS, why awareness and funds are so important to research, and how they're helping those affected in our very own South Florida area. They'll also learn how they can make an impact, even at their age, and have fun doing so with their families and friends at school. Everyone is welcome to register for the Walk and encouraged to raise donations just as we have done in the past with Jump Rope for Heart and Boosterthon. **Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.
**Please join our team as we Imagine a world free of MS and help us to make a significant impact for all of those living with this disease! What a fabulous way to make a difference!
